Greetings from F. Bigler, The Netherlands
Hello,
My question is a strange one, I suppose. I am a collector of stamps and I will expose my collection during a national philatelistic exposition in January.
Therefore I need a lot more items than stamps only. One of those items is a black print from a butterfly on an envelope. I know that your organisation has a print like that. It is a kind of franchise print or just a butterfly print next to the stamp. Do you understand?
I would be very happy to use that next to the block of pollination from the USA.
I know it is a kind of strange question, but I will ask it anyway.
Is it possible to send me an envelope with this special print on it? I would be very, very grateful.

I believe you are looking for our farm! This past summer, a local artist – Stan Herd, created a crop mural on our farm, of one of the “Pollination” stamps that came out the end of June this past year. The stamp depicts the Southern Dogface Butterfly on Iron Weed. The crop art was open for viewing from June 30 – about the 2nd week of September. There was a lookout tower available for visitors to get a “bird’s eye view” of the artwork.
This project was first organized by the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC). The week of June 24 through June 30, 2007 was designated National Pollinator Week, thanks to their efforts, and their successful lobbying with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Senate. As part of a national campaign to publicize the rapid and marked decline of pollinating insects and mammals, the NAPPC also convinced the U.S. Postal Service to issue a series of four pollination-themed stamps, depicting a Morrison’s bumble bee, a calliope hummingbird, a lesser long-nosed bat, and a Southern dogface butterfly.
On the weekend of June 30th, the Lawrence Post Office had a “2nd Day Issue” of the stamp series, and they were at the farm, hand cancelling stamps. Stan Herd was also on hand to autograph photos of the artwork. It was planned to be a great day, but we had about 4 inches of rain that day, and kept many people away. The farm was officially “Pollination Station” that day, and we still have envelopes available that are hand cancelled with Stan Herd’s autograph. We also have photos of his artwork. We have made special commemorative framed photo/stamps/cancelled envelopes with stamps that we sell here on the farm. Mrs. Bigler, we would gladly send you an envelope with a cancelled stamp and Stan Herd autograph, along with a photo of the artwork at no charge. Will the address provided in your e-mail be enough to get these items to you. I would like to get them in the mail as soon as possible, as the holiday mail rush is already upon us.
Attached is photo of the artwork on our farm and a copy of the cancellation stamp. Also, here is a link to a story done by our local television station about the stamp and artwork.

What an interesting question, I think I understand. I’m not sure about the butterfly print envelopes though. It’s not something the Heritage Alliance has been directly involved with. Let me forward your query on to a couple of our partners who’ve been working with the post office on the pollinator stamps. Perhaps this will ring a bell for one of them.
Do you specifically collect butterfly stamps or is your collection broader?

From F.B.
My collection is really only butterfly stamps and all the postal items around it. There are thousands of them. Worldwide, of course.
Thank you for your action. I’ve got a mail from Karen and she has something for me. I am really very glad with everything I can get. Thanks again.
